Fed: Dawn breaks at Gallipoli as thousands mark Anzac Day=3

Turkish military officers read a quotation in Turkish and English taken from a speech
made by the first president of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

Mr Ataturk had led and inspired the Turkish forces at Gallipoli.

"Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives you are now lying in the soil
of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace.

"There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets where they lie side by
side here in this country of ours.

"You the mothers who sent their sons from far away countries, wipe away your tears.

"Your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace.

"Having lost their lives on this land they have become our sons as well."

Mr Ataturk originally made the speech during a memorial at the Gallipoli peninsula
in 1985 to mark the 70th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings.

The words are now mounted on a huge memorial overlooking Anzac Cove at Gallipoli.
