NSW: Shark sighting at Bondi clears beach

SYDNEY, April 9 AAP - Swimmers at Bondi beach in Sydney's eastern suburns were evacuated
from the water twice today after shark sightings.

About 100 people were in the sea when a shark was spotted at about 1pm, about 300 metres
out from the shore.

Lifesavers sound the shark alarm and evacuated everyone from the water.

They gave the all-clear at 1.30pm but just five minutes later the alarm was sounded
again after a second sighting.

Eventually people were allowed back in the sea again half-an-hour hour later.

Sydney Director of Life Saving, Steve Leahy, said the shark had been spotted by surfboarders,
lifesavers in the radio tower and people in a patrol boat.

"Everyone remained calm throughout and now people are back in the sea enjoying the
nice weather," he said.
