NSW: Year 4 students compete for gifted Year 5 classes

More than 10,000 Year Four students in New South Wales will today sit exams for entry
into special gifted and talented classes in Year Five.

Premier BOB CARR says the exam will help decide places in new opportunity classes in
71 primary schools.

The students are competing for 1,700 available places in opportunity classes.

Students will be selected on the basis of their school marks and assignments as well
as today's exam, which was developed by the Australian Council for Educational Research.
